Toast · MCP server · For Claude
Toast is the POS for many restaurant groups. An MCP server lets Claude read orders, menus, labor, cash and stock data from the Toast API, so an operator can ask questions about their own restaurants in plain language.

As of 30 October 2026, Toast does not publish an official MCP server (Toast IQ is its in-product AI); community servers exist.
MCP support changes quickly. Re-check Toast’s developer documentation and announcements before you build or buy.
These 8 tools cover the common work restaurant groups and operators do in Toast. Each one maps to a single REST endpoint.
| Tool | REST endpoint | What it does |
|---|---|---|
get_orders_by_business_date | GET /orders/v2/ordersBulk | Read orders for a business date. |
get_order | GET /orders/v2/orders/{guid} | Read one order. |
get_menus | GET /menus/v2/menus | Read the menus. |
list_employees | GET /labor/v1/employees | List employees. |
list_time_entries | GET /labor/v1/timeEntries | List clock-in and clock-out entries. |
get_restaurant | GET /restaurants/v1/restaurants/{guid} | Read restaurant details. |
list_cash_entries | GET /cashmgmt/v1/entries | List cash management entries. |
get_stock | GET /stock/v1/inventory | Read item stock status. |
Paths come from Toast’s public API documentation. The exact endpoints, fields and final tool list are confirmed in writing at scoping, against your account.
The server signs in with client credentials at POST /authentication/v1/authentication/login and receives a Bearer token.
Each request also sends the Toast-Restaurant-External-ID header, which selects the restaurant.
orders:read and menus:read. Creating or changing orders, menus or anything else needs write access, which requires Toast partner approval. That is why every tool on this page only reads.The server runs two ways: locally over stdio, started with npx, or remotely over Streamable HTTP at a URL on your own host. The commands below use placeholders; your README has the real package name, URL and variables. NOLU does not run a shared hosted Toast server.
# remote (Streamable HTTP)
claude mcp add --transport http toast https://<your-host>/mcp
# local (stdio)
claude mcp add toast -e TOAST_CLIENT_ID=<value> -e TOAST_CLIENT_SECRET=<value> -e TOAST_RESTAURANT_EXTERNAL_ID=<value> -- npx -y <your-server-package>
For a remote server, add the URL https://<your-host>/mcp as a custom connector. For a local server, add it to claude_desktop_config.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"toast": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "<your-server-package>"],
"env": {
"TOAST_CLIENT_ID": "<value>",
"TOAST_CLIENT_SECRET": "<value>",
"TOAST_RESTAURANT_EXTERNAL_ID": "<value>"
}
}
}
}
In .cursor/mcp.json (project) or ~/.cursor/mcp.json (global):
{
"mcpServers": {
"toast": { "url": "https://<your-host>/mcp" }
}
}
Variable names above are examples. Keep credentials in local config or your host’s secret store, never in the repository.

Not with standard API access, which is read-only. Write access needs Toast partner approval. The tools here read orders, menus, labor, cash and stock data.
You can, and for a quick test it may be enough. A custom build gives you a tool list scoped to your workflows, tests, install docs and a private repository you own. Whichever you use, review what it can read and write before you give it credentials.
